Define PGYs and Rotation Blocks
Previous Topic  Next Topic

PGY is an abbreviation for Post-Graduate Year. PGY is used throughout Residency Partner™ to filter and segment residents based on their year in the residency program. PGY can be manually changed for each resident or updated using the Graduation option found on the Programs menu. For more information on Graduation, see Graduating Residents.

PGYs are defined on the Rotations tab of the Program Options window. To define a PGY, type a number in the PGY column. Next, select a Block Type. After a Block Type is selected, the Name column and the Start and End dates of the PGY change. The names of the blocks can be edited. The dates can be adjusted if needed.

If a PGY is to be a fellowship year, select the check box in the Fellowship column. Only check the Fellowship Year column if the PGY is to be used exclusively as a fellowship year.

Scheduling Next Year's Rotations Ahead of Time

It is possible to schedule rotations for the next academic year before you have advanced the academic year.

When you click Create Rotations, looks at the Rotations tab of Program Options and gets the current block types (monthly, 13 week, etc) and current block  dates. It then fills in the schedule using those block types and block dates. When you change the block types or the block dates your changes won't affect any rotations that you have already created. The changes will only affect new rotations that you create. Please keep in mind that the dates should only be in mm/dd format. Do not add any other slashes or year after the month and day.

So, if you are done scheduling rotations for the current year, you can change the dates on the Rotations tab of Program Options to the dates for the next year and create new rotation schedules for your residents. Just remember that PGY 1's will be 2's next year, 2's will be 3's, etc.
