Gothic Software, Inc. encourages regular use of the Compact Dataset function. This function requires exclusive access to the dataset for less than one minute when executed. Routine back-up of the Residency Partner™ installation is also strongly encouraged, but is not a function of Residency Partner™. Depending upon the chosen back-up utility, back-ups may require exclusive access to the files—resulting in a halt of Residency Partner™ activity—or may not require file access and have no effect on availability or speed.

To compact your dataset:

1. Make sure all users have exited Residency Partner.
2. Run RP Utility.
3. On the Maint. tab, click Compact Dataset.
   
   
4. Select your database file, then click Open. Make sure all users have exited Residency Partner, then click OK.
   
   
5. When RP Utility finishes compacting the dataset, a message will appear to let you know that it has finished, and  users will be able to resume working in Residency Partner.
